Kant stelt een diepe vraag in dit beroemde boek, hier gegeven in de Engelse vertaling van Meiklejohn: hoe weet je geest eigenlijk iets? Hij betoogt dat je geest geen leeg blad is. Hij brengt zijn eigen vormen mee, zoals ruimte en tijd, naar alles wat je ziet. Dit is een moeilijk boek, en niemand moet doen alsof dat niet zo is. Maar lees het langzaam, een paar bladzijden per keer, en je ziet een grote geest zijn eigen grenzen in kaart brengen.
