Starvard University · Values and Ethics

How we treat people is the curriculum too.

A university is not only what it teaches. It is how it treats every person who shows up to learn. We hold ourselves to incredibly high ethics, and this page says plainly what that means, so anyone can hold us to it.

1

Every person has fundamental dignity

We believe in the fundamental dignity of every human person. Dignity is not earned with grades, wealth, talent, or good behavior, and it is never revoked. The newest student and the most accomplished scholar carry the same worth here, and every course, page, and policy we make starts from that fact.

2

Respect is the house rule

We believe in respecting others: their time, their attention, their beliefs, and their right to disagree with us. Respecting people means we teach honestly, argue fairly, and never demean anyone to make a point. If we would not say it to a person's face, with kindness, we do not publish it.

3

Good boundaries protect kindness

It is important to have good boundaries in life, and a school should model them. We make clear promises and keep them. We say what things cost (here, nothing), what we collect (as little as possible), and what we will not do (sell your data, trap you in a feed, or guilt you into anything). A clean no, given early and kindly, is a form of respect.

4

We tell the truth, including about ourselves

Much of Starvard is built with help from AI, working alongside people, and we say so on every page. When we get something wrong, we fix it and we do not hide the fix. Honesty is slower than hype, and it is the only way trust is built.

5

Knowledge belongs to everyone

Free means free. No tuition, no application games, no paywall tricks, no advertising, and no selling students to anyone. If knowledge can set a person free, then charging them rent on it needs a better reason than we have ever heard.

6

Kindness is the point

Starvard exists so that real people flourish: the single parent studying at midnight, the teenager in a small town, the grandfather starting over. That is why our challenges pay students, why our library reads aloud for free, and why this page exists. Kindness is not our marketing. It is the mission.

What this means in practice

If we ever fall short of this page, tell us. We would rather be corrected than comfortable.
