Starvard Bucks

The university
pays you back.

Starvard Bucks are the money of Starvard. You earn them by learning: read pages, pass quizzes. 1 Buck = 1 cent. 100 Bucks = $1. Cash out from 500 Bucks through Tippy, our tip bot in the Discord.

Your wallet

Your Bucks, on this device.

No account, no password. Your wallet lives in this browser and fills up as you learn, the same honor system as Starvard Points. Claim your Bucks in the Discord whenever you like, and claim early and often: your claim codes are your receipts.

Claim your Bucks

Make a claim code, then paste it in our Discord. Sam checks the code and Tippy pays you. Cash out starts at 500 Bucks ($5); smaller balances can be tipped to anyone in the Discord right away.

Honest status: Sam verifies claim codes by hand today, usually the same day. Automatic Tippy crediting is the next build, and it is on the Future Ideas page.

Reading pays up to 300 Bucks a day (30 pages). After that, keep reading for love; the meter starts again tomorrow.

📖

A normal week of learning

Read 5 pages a day for 5 days: 250 Bucks. Pass one certificate quiz: 500 Bucks. Plus your 60 Buck hello. That is 810 Bucks = $8.10 for a week of free education.

🎓

One full course

A 12 page course read end to end: 120 Bucks. Its certificate quiz: 500 Bucks. 620 Bucks = $6.20, and you keep the knowledge and the certificate too.

Bucks run on the same ledger as the E2 economy: one Buck, one rate, everywhere in E2.

The rules, in the open

A small economy, run honestly.

🛡

Real reading only

A page pays once, and only when the tracker sees a real read: time on the page and a scroll to the end. Opening 30 tabs pays nothing. Certificate Bucks verify against the signed certificate record, so a quiz cannot be faked or claimed twice.

🏦

Backed by a real pot

Dave funds the Community Pot behind Bucks. Starvard can issue up to 2,000 Bucks ($20) a day across all students, first come first served, and the pot is reconciled against the Tippy bank in public on the E2 economy page.

⚖

Farming ends the wallet

Bots, scripts, fake reads and double claims are farming. A farmed wallet is zeroed, no argument. Honest students never have a problem: read like a person and the meter loves you.

🔑

Your wallet, your device

Bucks live in your browser until you claim them, so a cleared browser can lose an unclaimed balance. The fix is simple: claim early and often. Claim codes are dated receipts of exactly what you earned.

Questions

Bucks, answered.

Is this real money?

Yes. A Buck is worth one cent, backed by the Community Pot, and cashes out through Tippy from 500 Bucks. Small money on purpose: this is a university that pays you to learn, not a lottery.

Why pay students at all?

Because attention is the real tuition everywhere else. Here it flows the other way. It is also the plan on our Vision page: the world's best free university should pay its students, not bill them.

Do Bucks expire?

No expiry is planned. Claimed Bucks in Tippy are yours. Unclaimed Bucks sit in your browser wallet, so claim them into Tippy where they are safe.

What is next?

Automatic Tippy crediting, lesson quizzes at 100 Bucks, book chapter Bucks, and paid course tasks. The whole roadmap lives on Future Ideas.
