Watch electricity flow through a circuit

Flip switches live and watch current flow as moving dots.

By Paul FalstadFree to visitA Starvard Treasure

Electricity is hard to picture because you cannot see it move. Paul Falstad's simulator shows current as little dots travelling along the wires of a circuit.

Flip a switch and the dots stop or change course; add a part and watch what happens next. It runs in a browser, comes with many ready-made circuits, and is safe to experiment with as wildly as you like.

Try this first

Start with the basic circuit, then add a second battery and watch the dots speed up. The examples menu is the real teacher: work through the resistor and capacitor examples in order.
